On September 14 MEPhI has received a delegation of representatives of the Internet platform for open online courses Coursera to announce partnerships with the University. The delegation comprised of the Coursera head and founder Daphne Koller, the head of the regional network Anjuli Gupta Monica and the Manager to work with Russian partners Inessa Roman-Pogorzhelskaya.

During the visit representatives of the system of remote education held a meeting with MEPhI management. They reviewed positive aspects of mutual cooperation and discussed some specific proposals.

Today Coursera is the most popular and reputable project in the area of open education. It collaborates with leading universities of the world and has an audience of 14 million people, and Russian-speaking audience is in the top 10 by number of users. The majority of Coursera's partners are European and American universities, but since 2013 Coursera has started to cooperate with Russia.

Speaking to the heads of educational and research units of MEPhI, Daphne Koller said that a new educational technology was used by approximately 350 thousand Russian-speaking students not only in Russia but also abroad. She stressed that Coursera carefully selected partner universities and at the moment an agreement was signed only with six Russian universities. “I see a big potential from our partnership with MEPhI because in the end Russian users of Coursera will have access to unique educational courses developed by the best specialists and researchers. The University will become more prominent in the international educational environment, and we will be able to achieve our goal – to deliver high quality content for Russian-speaking audience”.

It is to be recalled that a month ago MEPhI signed an agreement on the creation of e-learning courses on the Coursera platform, access to which will receive not only Russian users, but also representatives of the best universities in the world.
