Head of international collaboration HADES Joachim Stroth visits MEPhI
04.09.2015

The head of the international physical experiment has visited MEPhI by the invitation of the Center for nanostructured electronics and the Department № 67. The purpose was acquaintance with the University and a seminar on activities of the collaboration.

As previously reported, in early October 2015 a leadership of the collaboration HADES (GSI, Darmstadt) will consider the application of MEPhI to become an experiment participant. In connection with the forthcoming event, the head of the collaboration Professor Joachim Stroth conducted an official visit to the University, during which he met with the MEPhI leadership, scientists, postgraduates and students.

The rector of MEPhI M.N. Strikhanov opened the official meeting. He thanked the head of HADES for the visit and for the opportunity to discuss the current situation in the field of high energy physics.

During the seminar Professor Joachim Stroth presented results of physical research of the collaboration over the last 10 years, spoke in details about its participants and objectives that will be achieved jointly with MEPhI.

In response an associate Professor of the Department “Condensed matter physics” Alexander Taranenko spoke about MEPhI participation in experiments on relativistic nuclear physics held in national and international accelerator centres, where they make a significant contribution to its development.

Participation in the HADES experiment will give MEPhI scientists an opportunity to significantly expand the range of available energies for the search of new forms of nuclear matter. And for undergraduate and postgraduate students it’s a chance to work in the most modern experiment in Germany in the field of relativistic nuclear physics.

Today collaboration employs about 110 physicists from 19 institutions from ten European countries. MEPhI hopes to become the first University from Russia, which will be a part of the international collaboration HADES.
