On April 7 National Research Nuclear University “MEPhI” and Industry centre of capital construction (OCKS) of the SC “Rosatom” have signed a cooperation agreement.
The Director on capital investments of the SC “Rosatom”, Director OCKS “Rosatom” Gennady Sakharov and rector of the MEPhI Mikhail Strikhanov affixed their signatures to the document.
The purpose of the agreement is cooperation in personnel training for implementation of capital investment programs, interaction between knowledge management and innovation development in the construction of atomic energy objects, formation of the nuclear business education in the global market of nuclear construction and preparation of personnel reserve in the area of regulatory support and regulation of capital investments in accordance with the IAEA recommendations.
Before signing, M.N. Strikhanov stated that there were all prerequisites to establish broad partnership cooperation between the two structures. “We see three key areas of cooperation: international cooperation, information technologies and training and retraining of personnel”, he stressed, adding that MEPhI can help in solving the problem of personnel training in construction specialties, as two University branches – Volgodonsk and Dimitrovgrad – have appropriate building Departments.
According to G.S. Sakharov, despite the fact that MEPhI is not a field-oriented construction educational institution, skills and abilities that exist in the University will serve to profitable mutual cooperation. Personnel training is one of the priority directions of the Industry centre of capital construction, as in the next five years Rosatom can feel the lack of personnel to implement its foreign projects. “Last year for the first time we have revived the tradition of target students admission to teach them constructional occupations... target students could enroll for magistracy training in MEPhI”, he stressed. Another important area of cooperation should be development of professional and educational standards for construction occupations with account of requirements, imposed on the Corporation as a global company operating in different countries.
Among the immediate tasks of the signed agreement there is participation in formation of the national system of nuclear business education. First step in this direction has already been made by the MEPhI – the concept of the MEPhI business school is approved. Soon it is planned to create an MBA program for the training of site managers abroad in the field of nuclear technology, which is a part of the program of project teams training in accordance with the IAEA recommendations.
One more key area is search and implementation of innovations in capital construction in the nuclear industry. In the future it will be possible to create a joint international centre for research of innovative technologies in nuclear engineering, in particular, with the use of experimental reactor facilities of the MEPhI. It is also planned to expand international cooperation in research area, exchange leading scientists and experts, and broaden interaction with foreign universities in terms of construction of nuclear facilities.
