Open Day of Faculty “Management and Economics of High Technologies”

On February 16 MEPhI has held an Open Day of the Faculty “Management and Economics of High Technologies”. On this day, the University was visited by more than 300 pupils and their parents. At the entrance guests were welcomed by students who handed out colorful brochures with detailed information about departments and institutes of the Faculty.

Faculty “Management and Economics of High Technologies” is one of the youngest MEPhI subdivisions. It was established in 1999, and has taken its present form in 2009, becoming a result of modernization of the educational process, which was aimed to reach correspondence between educational goals and Strategic plan for economic and innovative development of the nuclear industry.

Currently the Faculty is composed of four institutes and 15 departments; about three thousand students undertake programs of different modes of study. Also it has a post-graduate program, and in late 2010 the Dissertation Council was established, where doctoral and candidate’s theses in the three economic specialties can be protected.

Being geographically located in Moscow, the Faculty maintains high level of economic education in branches of MEPhI. It is a methodological center of university’s economic block. At the end of the last year MEPhI was admitted to the Association of leading universities in the field of Economics and Management (AVVEM), which includes only two dozen of universities. Entering AVVEM was accompanied by a detailed check of both scientific and educational processes in the field of economics and management, which proved correspondence with the highest standards.

The Faculty carries out fundamental training in the field of engineering economics of nuclear technologies, in development management of innovative activities of the nuclear industry, system analysis and scientific substantiation of formation of lifecycle management of complex engineering systems. Great attention is paid to internal control in the nuclear industry, the concept of which originated in MEPhI and then was implemented by the State Corporation Rosatom. Features of training at the Faculty “Management and Economics of High Technologies” is preparation of students in accordance with individual plans both in the university and leading organizations of the nuclear industry: internship gives students not only effective preparation of qualifying paper, but also achievement of effective engineering and economic solutions for the development of the nuclear industry.

The main goal of the Faculty is training of highly qualified and competitive professionals, who are able to develop domestic high technologies, to improve Russian economy, to establish international technological cooperation with other countries. The global nuclear market is in need of economists, managers and system analysts.

The general meeting was continued by meetings with heads of departments and institutions. Senior students of the Faculty told pupils about their student life. Guests studied presentation materials, communicate with representatives of the Faculty, who readily responded to various questions of future applicants and their parents.
