July 13-19, the IV international youth forum of energy and industry workers “Forsage-2014” took place in the Kaluga region, close to the city Zhukov. It was organized by the State Corporation “Rosatom”, the International Association of Corporate Education (MAKO) and a number of companies from the energy sector.
Each year participants from all over Russia and abroad come to the forum – young specialists and scientists – those who in ten years will determine the fate of the nuclear industry. This year meeting gathered 800 participants, several dozens of experts and speakers, among whom there were many representatives of the MEPhI.
The forum is the most important communication platform where young specialists – the personnel reserve of the SC “Rosatom” – communicate and form joint projects, being involved in the solution of strategic tasks of “Rosatom” under the supervision of leading experts and industry leaders.
Rosatom students Club, post-graduate students, students and young employees of MEPhI, who came from Moscow and Obninsk, traditionally participated in the events of “Forsage”.
Coordinator of the Rosatom Students club, a post-graduate student of the Department “Design of devices and installations” Gennady Baryshev took part in the “International flow”, which gathered forty participants from EurAsEC countries – Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and also from Vietnam and the UK. Throughout the week the future leaders of the nuclear industries of their countries worked under the guidance of experts from the IAEA and “Rosatom” Block the innovation management. The main theme of the International flow was a knowledge management system, which is particularly relevant today, including MEPhI.
As a preparation for the forum, IAEA specialists opened a course on knowledge management systems, and on-site participants were able to test in practice these tools. Groups chose the theme of their works jointly with IAEA experts from different countries – Great Britain, Argentina, Finland, Czech Republic and Russia.
A hard-driving programme was practical oriented – experts from the IAEA successfully applied innovation-oriented gaming technologies in education. Participants learned some of the key aspects of knowledge management through a business economic game, forming a game corporation, solving engineering problems and having developed its own model of knowledge management. Foreign experts pointed extraordinary solutions designed and implemented by the members of the Rosatom students club, underlining level of their management competence.
Another focus of the participants’ work was creation and development of own projects in the area of knowledge management. In the end of the week teams of the International flow presented their projects. Subject matter was wide – from IT-solutions of transfer technologies of implicit knowledge to modern methods of popularization of nuclear energy among the youth. The Expert Commission particularly noted the high level of presented projects, stressing their importance and relevance. Among the best awarded projects there was one, in which elaboration participated members of the Rosatom Students club.
“I believe that students should try to do something, to learn new techniques, to make mistakes, to learn. On that basis, we’ve developed a business game”, - said John Day, the expert of IAEA, the Head of the Department of intellectual property and knowledge management of Sella field Ltd.
A member of the Rosatom Students club and an engineer from MEPhI Aleksey Bakun took part in the work flow “Youth leader”, which brought together 40 trade union activists and representatives of youth organizations of the nuclear industry. In addition to educational programs in the first day participants listened to lectures on event-administration and implementation of projects, presented by Tatyana Lebedeva from FSUE VNIIA. Chief editor of the newspaper “Country of Rosatom” Yulia Gileva and a chief editor of the corporate radio “Country of Rosatom” Polina Stupina taught cooperation of youth organizations and the media, the right writing of press-releases to “Youth leaders” participants. In the following days there were conducted a number of trainings on the implementation of lean manufacturing by specialists from the Russian Union of youth. In the framework of this theme a round table was held with representatives of Nuclear society of Russia, the Russian Union of youth and MEPhI.
The forum was visited by the General Director of State Corporation “Rosatom” Sergey Kirienko, the Vice-principal of the National Research Nuclear University “MEPhI” Mikhail Strikhanov and Director of Rosatom Communications Department Sergey Novikov.
Sergey Kirienko delivered a lecture to young specialists on basic values of “Rosatom” and then together with his colleagues took an active part in the exciting business game where the future leaders of the nuclear industry had to apply these values, solving not trivial engineering problems.
The names of MEPhI and the Rosatom Students club were heard frequently at various venues of the forum. The event has proved to be effective and rich – Club has accepted new members, including people from Obninsk and from abroad, becoming international. An agreement was reached between the leaders of the Club and the Russian nuclear society on the implementation of joint projects.
“Forsage” week gave a powerful impulse of inspiration and opportunities for implementation in the near future of a great number of projects contributing to the innovative development of the University and the nuclear industry, including projects on management of engineering competences and knowledge.
