National Research Nuclear University MEPhI representatives took part in the science festival in Myanmar

15th to 17th of August, a Science Festival was held in Yangon (Republic of the Union of Myanmar). The event was organized by State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom together with the Ministry of Science and Technology of Myanmar. The Information Center on Nuclear Technologies, opened with the assistance of Rosatom in 2023; Yangon University of Technology; Singapore-Myanmar Institute of Vocational Training (SMVTI); as well as a number of schools in the city opened their doors to welcome students for three days.

More than 3,000 schoolchildren, students, experts and teachers took part in scientific and educational events held during the festival.

The guests of the festival were able to take part in quests and interactive games popularizing science and the use of nuclear technologies in energy, medicine, and agriculture. On the first day of the festival, a lecture "Nuclear energy in the world: myths and facts" was held. Career guidance lessons were also organized in Yangon schools.

One of the significant events of the festival was the HakAtom competition, which was hosted by MEPhI teachers Dmitry Samokhin and Alexander Nakhabov. During the event, student teams presented their concepts for the development of nuclear energy in the country.  

For the first time, the festival hosted a talk show with women who devoted their lives to scientific and research activities. Professor Yi Mon Nai from Yangon University of Technology and Do Ne Zi Tyra Nau from Mandalay University of Technology told students about their work and career path.

At the opening ceremony of the festival the Federal Minister of Science and Technology of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Dr. Myo Thein Kyaw, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Myanmar Iskander Azizov greeted guests.

Myo Thein Kyaw, in particular, noted that students' interest in science and engineering professions is growing, which contributes to the development of human resources in sectors related to science and nuclear energy, and is the key to the future.
