The IMC Olympiad annually gathers teams from countries all over the world, representing one of the most prestigious and competitive events in the field of higher mathematics. It is famous for the high level of tasks and the complexity of two-day tests, which allows participants to demonstrate their knowledge and skills at a global level. It was a great opportunity for our team to prove themselves – which the MEPhIsts did! – as well as to share experiences with other participants and strengthen international bonds.
From August 5th to 10th, Blagoevgrad (Bulgaria) hosted the largest and most prestigious International student Olympiad in Mathematics is the International Mathematics Competition (IMC) 2024. 400 students from 50 countries and 115 universities from all over the world took part in the competition. MEPhI students took part in this Olympiad for the first time and showed decent results for their debut:
- Nikita Klinov (B21-514) – Second Prize,
- Daniil Nifontov (M22-201) – Second Prize,
- Anton Losev (B21-201) – Honorable Mention.
MEPhIsts thank the organizers of the Olympiad and the leadership of the MEPhI National Research University for the opportunity to take part in such a large competition. Here are the impressions of our students from participating in the Olympics:
"IMC has become one of the most unforgettable events of this year. We immersed ourselves in solving complex mathematical problems, practiced English and made friends from all over the world. This experience has broadened our horizons and inspired us to further develop in mathematics," Anton Losev.
"The tasks of the Olympiad seemed quite difficult, but at the same time challenging. Problems from various branches of mathematics were presented at the Olympiad. In my opinion, there is a difference in the complexity of the tasks between the days, the tasks of the second day were more difficult to solve," Daniil Nifontov.
"A truly amazing event where bright minds from all over the world gather. This Olympiad is an opportunity not only to try your hand at competitions of such a global scale, but also to find new acquaintances outside of Russia, learn more about life and studies in other countries. I will be very glad to take part here next year," Nikita Klipov.
Congratulations to our talented young mathematicians and thank you for the worthy presentation of MEPhI University on the world stage!
