MEPhI entered the group of leaders in the Ranking of Russian entrepreneurial universities and business schools for 2023 prepared by the Expert certification center.

The ranking, published on October 16, included 50 Russian universities. A study conducted by the Expert Analytical Center identified universities whose graduates were able to create internationally noticeable startups.

The ranking is based on 4 indicators characterizing the scale and success of universities as generators of technological entrepreneurship: the number of graduates of a Russian university (or business school) who created a startup in any country (30%); number of startups founded by graduates (30%); volume of investments attracted by startups (30%); share of supported startups (startups with non-zero investments) (10%). The ranking includes only those universities that have produced at least 15 startups.

The main source of data for the ranking is the international Crunchbase database. The first stage of sampling founders and startups from the entire volume of Crunchbase information included unloading 967 thousand companies founded in 2009-2023. At the second stage, startups of Russian origin were selected, with ~4 thousand startups and ~4 thousand startup founders selected. The final stage is an in-depth check of the education of the founders from the sample using the Crunchbase, AngelList, social networks, etc.
