MEPhI Employees Are Again Among the Most Cited Scientists in the World

Elsevier has published a list of the top 2% of the world's most cited scientists in 2022 - eight of them are MEPhI employees, and two of them have maintained their positions since last year.

The updated rating includes:

Nikolay Kudryashov – professor, head of the department of applied mathematics at MEPhI (2nd place in his field in Russia);

Alexey Samsonovich – Professor, Department of Cybernetics of the MEPhI, Scientific Director of ICIS of the MEPhI;

Mikhail Danilov – Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, head of the Department of Experimental Nuclear Physics and Cosmophysics at MEPhI in 2012-2018;

Sergey Popruzhenko – professor, head of the department of theoretical nuclear physics at MEPhI;

Vahid Gani – Associate Professor, Department of Higher Mathematics at MEPhI.

The list also includes mythists who have already left us: Stanislav Kellner (Professor, Department of Theoretical Nuclear Physics), Nikolai Narozhny (Professor, Head of the Department of Theoretical Nuclear Physics), Evgeny Meshkov (Associate Professor of the Department of Physics, Head of the Hydrodynamic Laboratory of the Sarov Institute of Physics and Technology of the MEPhI) – their works continue to be actively cited.

The ranking is calculated based on the total number of citations over the entire career of a scientist based on standardized indicators for a specific field of science, excluding self-citations. Calculation is made using all Scopus author profiles as of September 1, 2023, updated through the end of 2022 citations.
