On October 2, the grand opening of the final stage of the III International Olympiad on Financial Security, which will run until October 6, took place on the federal territory of Sirius. This year, about 500 schoolchildren and students from 19 countries became finalists of the Olympiad, including students from the Institute of Financial Technologies and Economic Security of MEPhI.

The opening ceremony of the Olympics was attended by Director of Rosfinmonitoring Yuri Chikhanchin, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia Dmitry Afanasyev, representatives of the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation, heads of foreign financial intelligence units, as well as representatives of the Chinese Embassy in Russia, the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing terrorism, universities of the International Network Institute in the field of AML/CFT, the International Educational and Methodological Center for Financial Monitoring.

“It is important to involve young people in resolving issues related to ensuring financial security at the international level. The more states are involved in this activity, the better the result will be. New countries join the International Financial Security Olympiad every year. The Olympic movement has already covered four continents and more than 6 million people,” said Yuri Chikhanchin.

The final week program includes about 60 different activities, including interactive workshops, panel discussions, master classes, competitions for solving economic cases, meetings with interesting people, a physical football tournament, as well as cultural events. Experts in the field of financial security from different countries – representatives of government authorities, the banking sector, the business community, as well as international organizations – will communicate with schoolchildren and students.

“Thanks to participation in the events of the Olympiad, everyone can express themselves and expand their knowledge in the field of financial security, including its information and legal aspects. For the winners and prize-winners of the Olympiad, benefits are provided for admission to study in educational organizations of higher education,” emphasized Deputy Head of the Ministry of Education and Science Dmitry Afanasyev.

The International Olympiad on Financial Security has been held since 2021 on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This year the participating countries were: Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Brazil, China, India, South Africa, Algeria, Venezuela, Vietnam, Iran, Cuba, Namibia and Pakistan. Over the three years of the Olympics, the geography of participating states has almost tripled.

In 2022, MEPhI students were among the winners and prize-winners of the Olympiad.
