On September 22, the Obninsk Institute for Nuclear Power Engineering (OINPE) of the MEPhI turns 70 years old. We remember the main stages of the glorious path and, of course, congratulate the institute on its anniversary!

Obninsk is the first science city in Russia; the world's first nuclear power plant was built here. In the middle of the last century, a large nuclear technical center was created in Obninsk, which required highly qualified engineers to work. In 1953, the evening department No. 5 of the Moscow Mechanical Institute opened in the city. 9 years passed, and the evening department was transformed into the Obninsk branch of MEPhI to train specialists in the field of atomic energy use.

Over the past years, OINPE of the MEPhI has trained more than 20 thousand qualified specialists. Graduates of the Obninsk university work at all nuclear power plants in Russia. Over 30% of the engineering and technical personnel of nuclear power plants received education, retraining or advanced training within the walls of the Obninsk Institute of Nuclear Energy.

Today, OINPE is the largest branch of MEPhI, a center for training specialists for new businesses of the Rosatom State Corporation, the healthcare system, enterprises of the pharmaceutical and IT clusters. About 500 students from 30 countries study at the university.

Despite its advanced age, the institute is young at heart and is constantly developing. It is here that the I International Youth Nuclear Forum is being held these days, it is planned to create an ultra-modern international educational cluster in the field of nuclear and related technologies OBNINSK.TECH and, most importantly, here specialists are being trained who will very soon take responsibility for the fate of our planet, because achieving sustainable development goals is impossible without the use of nuclear technologies.

We congratulate our colleagues from the Obninsk Institute for Nuclear Power Engineering on their anniversary, we wish you faith in your strengths, inexhaustible optimism and new achievements for the benefit of our Motherland!
