MEPhI Will Train Turkish Citizens to Work at Akkuyu NPP

MEPhI announced the enrollment of citizens of the Republic of Turkey to study in the master's program in the direction of "Nuclear Physics and Technology". According to the training program for the Akkuyu NPP under construction in Turkey, it is planned to recruit 25 students.


Construction of Akkuyu NPP

Students with a natural science, technical or energy profile with the bachelor qualification have the opportunity to apply for admission to the university. The training program is designed for three years. The first year is devoted to Russian language classes with a technical bias, the next two – to specialized disciplines. Admission to the magistracy takes place in one stage. Applicants must submit an application with a package of documents by April 1, 2023 and pass an interview with MEPhI teachers.

General Director of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC Anastasia Zoteeva noted: “Training highly qualified Turkish specialists in the field of nuclear energy is one of the priorities of the Akkuyu project. Already more than 300 young engineers are working at the construction site of the first nuclear power plant in Turkey and gaining invaluable experience that will help them during the operation phase of Akkuyu NPP. We are announcing the start of a new introductory campaign for undergraduate graduates of technical faculties of universities of the Republic of Turkey to continue their education in the field of nuclear energy at one of the leading universities in Russia. We invite all young professionals who meet the selection criteria to apply and become a member of the large, friendly team of Akkuyu NPP in the future!”.

The targeted training program for Akkuyu NPP personnel for Turkish citizens is implemented on the basis of the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Turkey on cooperation in the construction and operation of a nuclear power plant at the Akkuyu NPP site in the Republic of Turkey.

Information on the conditions for admission of Turkish citizens to study at the MEPhI master's program and a questionnaire for candidates are posted on the official website of AKKUYU NUCLEAR (http://www.akkunpp.com/rusyada-egitim).

Akkuyu NPP is the first nuclear power plant in the Republic of Turkey. The Akkuyu NPP project includes four power units with Russian-designed pressurized water power reactor generation 3+ reactors. The capacity of each nuclear power unit will be 1200 MW. The Russian State Corporation Rosatom owns a 100% stake in the project and can sell up to 49% stake to a single investor or to several companies on the basis of an Intergovernmental Agreement. The construction of the Akkuyu NPP is the first project in the global nuclear industry implemented according to the Build-Own-Operate model.
