Earlier, the Minister of Education of Egypt, Mohammad Ayman Ashur, approached his Russian colleague Valery Falkov with a proposal to create a branch of the Russian university in Alexandria on the basis of the recently opened Borg al-Arab Polytechnic University - given the proximity of the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant under construction by Rosatom.

MEPhI is actively involved in this work. At a meeting with Abir Kassem, Dmitry Savkin outlined a list of areas for preparation and possible formats for cooperation within the framework of this project and received positive feedback from Egyptian partners.

Also on March 20, Cairo hosted the 14th meeting of the Joint Russian-Egyptian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.

According to the press center of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, the ministry is currently working on the implementation of the Egyptian side's initiative to expand the opportunities for training specialists for the nuclear industry in Egypt. At the moment, a number of Russian universities are implementing a joint master's program "Nuclear Physics and Technology" with the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities.

In the future, it is planned to train students by leading Russian universities under the coordination of the Rosatom State Corporation on the basis of the Burj Al Arab Polytechnic University in Alexandria. The National Research Nuclear University "MEPhI", the National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University, the National Research University "MPEI", the St. Petersburg State Electrotechnical University "LETI" and the Ural Federal University are taking part in the initiative.
