On December 8, the winners of the Technological Breakthrough Award for 2022 were announced. Among the laureates is MEPhI Professor Igor Yashin.

The Technological Breakthrough competition has been held since 2020 and is aimed at supporting technological projects and achievements of Russian companies, research centers and educational organizations. This year, 89 projects were submitted for the competition. The winners of the competition were 33 projects in 11 nominations.
In the nomination "Technological breakthrough in the field of nuclear energy and industry", the winner was Professor of the Department of Nuclear Physics and Technology of the MEPhI Igor Yashin for the implementation of the project "Muon tomography of nuclear reactors", based on the development of technology with a demonstration of the technical capabilities and performance of a hybrid muon tests at the site of the operating NPP (Kalinin NPP).
In 2022, as part of the competition, special attention was paid to solutions that help create conditions in Russia for achieving technological, human and financial sovereignty.
In just three years of the competition, 170 Russian companies, scientific and educational organizations have become its laureates.
