The key partner of MEPhI, the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, celebrates its 15th anniversary on December 1. Over the years of its development, the corporation has become the head of the national energy sector and has become a leader in the global nuclear technology market.
On December 1, 2007, the Russian nuclear industry reached a new level. The creation of the state corporation was intended to create new conditions for the development of nuclear energy, to strengthen Russia's competitive advantages in the global nuclear technology market.
For 14 years, Rosatom has managed to consolidate industrial and scientific assets, link industry enterprises into a single chain of a complete technological cycle - from uranium mining to storage of spent nuclear fuel and decommissioning of nuclear facilities.
Thanks to Russian nuclear scientists, the country has taken second place in the world in uranium mining and holds the first place in its enrichment. One fifth of the electricity in Russia is now produced by nuclear power plants, and this figure will only grow. In particular, Rosatom plans to build and launch 16 nuclear power units in the country by 2035, including low-capacity nuclear power plants. By 2050, the share of nuclear generation in electricity generation in Russia should increase to 25%.
