MEPhI Celebrated its 80th Anniversary in the Kremlin

The celebration of the 80th anniversary of MEPhI took place on November 23 at the State Kremlin Palace. Throughout the evening, warm words, congratulations and wishes to the mythists were heard from the stage - from the country's leadership, colleagues, partners and famous artists.

The meeting was opened by honored guests. Andrey Fursenko, Assistant to the Head of State, was the first to address the audience with a welcoming speech from the President of Russia. Vladimir Putin's message noted "the unique contribution of MEPhI to the development of domestic science, strategic sectors of the economy and the military-industrial complex."

Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov said that MEPhI has always remained faithful to the best academic traditions. “Today, MEPhI is the largest scientific and educational center and the leading technical university in the country.”

Vice President of the Kurchatov Institute Alexander Blagov and President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Krasnikov also came to congratulate the staff, students and graduates of the university.

Aleksey Likhachev, General Director of Rosatom State Corporation, conveyed congratulations, bows and best wishes on behalf of the 300,000-strong staff of Rosatom and expressed confidence that “by 2030 MEPhI should become the planetary leader in nuclear education.”

Then the MEPhI rector Vladimir Shevchenko, who graduated from MEPhI with honors, took the stage. He thanked his colleagues and partners for the congratulations and kind words and said: “We are proud of those who keep the fire of nuclear university traditions today and carefully pass it on to the new generation – our best students and lyceum students in the world. They have the right and honor to bear the glorious name of MEPhI tomorrow, to accept new challenges with responsibility and faith!”.

Representatives of the MEPhI branches, well-known scientists and even cosmonauts on the ISS - Anna Kikina, Sergei Prokofiev and Dmitry Petelin - also sent their video greetings. Then a festive concert was held with the participation of employees and students of MEPhI and famous artists. The festival brought together several thousand guests.
