MEPhI took third place among Russian universities in the Best Global Universities Rankings 2022-2023, prepared by the U.S. News & World Report American agency. MEPhI also took second place among Russian universities in the Best Global Universities for Physics subject ranking (37th in the world).

In the Best Global Universities for Optics subject ranking, MEPhI entered the top 150 best universities in the world for the first time (138th place), having improved its position by more than 60 positions compared to 2021. Also, MEPhI was included in the subject rankings in the areas of Materials Science, Engineering and Chemistry.

In total, the ranking includes 2,000 universities from 95 countries. U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities ranking uses scientometric and reputation indicators provided by the independent international company Clarivate (until 2016 - Thomson Reuters).
