World-famous scientists will be invited as speakers of MEPHI summer schools
21.07.2020

In July and August 2020, leading experts in life sciences and medicine from UK, Germany, France, Sweden, India, Brazil, USA, and Russia will conduct classes with students and young scientists in the framework of the international summer schools of the Engineering Physics Institute of Biomedicine of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI.

This year, schools will be held online. Students, graduate students, and young researchers specializing in this and related fields of knowledge will become their listeners and participants.

Summer schools increase the level of knowledge of students and young specialists and strengthen the links between scientists and students from different countries. Schools also allow attracting well-trained and motivated applicants and graduate students to the university, said Sergey Klimentov, deputy director of the Institute for Research and Development at MEPhI.

Among our listeners are young scientists from Russia, countries of the former USSR, India, Brazil, Egypt, and China. For MEPhI students, summer school becomes a kind of reporting event, where they present the results of their scientific work and get a chance to discuss them with leading scientists. For the first time, at the international school "Biophotonics", we are holding an online poster session. Young scientists will present their work in virtual poster halls, and an expert jury will evaluate and award the winners, noticed Sergey Klimentov.

International Summer Online School "Biophotonics" will be held from 20 to 26 July under the leadership of the world-famous scientist, Director of the Institute for Laser Research, Photonics and Biophotonics, Professor of the University of Buffalo (USA) Paras Prasad.

Classes in English will cover such areas as the emergence of biophotonics, laser systems for diagnostics and therapy, synthesis of nanomaterials for biophotonic applications, bionanosensorics, etc.

The International Summer Online School "Innovative Technologies of Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Therapy" will be held from 27 July to 2 August under the leadership of Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director General of the National Medical Center for Radiology, Chief Extraordinary Oncologist of the Russian Ministry of Health, Professor Andrey Kaprin. The training will be in Russian.

The classes will allow students and young scientists to expand their knowledge in the field of promising areas of nuclear medicine, including nuclear nanomedicine, the development, and implementation of new radiopharmaceutical drugs with nanocarriers for targeted delivery to the tumor. The listeners will learn about new trends of distance therapy for cancer patients such as proton therapy, gamma therapy, angiography, etc.

The International Summer Online School "High-tech Medicine" will be held from 3 to 9  August under the leadership of Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of the Department of Urology and Surgical Andrology of the Russian Medical Academy of Continuing Professional Education of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Professor Oleg Loran. The training will be in Russian.

Students and young scientists will be able to expand their knowledge in the field of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technologies. Special attention will be paid to various medical imaging techniques, machine learning technologies, data science, and telemedicine. Students will learn about robotic surgery’s technologies as well as about the use of artificial intelligence in the creation of expert and support systems for medical decisions.
