On December, 12 2017 the Third National Rating of Russian Universities was presented in Moscow, which shows their relevance to the Russian economy.

The study of the Social Navigator of the INA “Rossiya segodnya” included 448 universities from 81 subjects of the Russian Federation in 2017. They were estimated by demand of employers for trained professionals, commercialization of intellectual product produced by the university and relevance of the research product.

The Lomonosov Moscow State University became the leader of the rating among Russian classical universities. The first place among the engineering schools of the country for the third consecutive year has taken by the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI.

The rector of MEPhI Mikhail Strikhanov noted that this rating was very important and socially popular. According to him, participation in the rankings is "the digitization of University’s activities" and “it's not one figure, but a large database on different indicators”.

The rector placed emphasis on the key success factors of the University: "I think MEPhI is fortunate to have such an employer, as Rosatom. Our graduates are in very high demand. We know exactly how many personnel our employer needs. The second reason is early career guidance. The third reason is the growing interest of the society to the engineering profession,” said M.N. Strikhanov.

Rating of universities’ relevance includes 127 engineering universities, 89 classical universities, 54 agricultural universities, 61 universities of management, 69 liberal arts colleges and 48 medical schools.

According to the study, agricultural universities are in the lead the ratio of "the percentage of graduates who received the referral" – almost 68%. The least popular are graduates of management (economics, finance and law – 28.6%). Engineering universities are on the top in the share of scientific research funds in the university’s budget (on average – 15.6% of the university’s budget). Rates of medical and agricultural universities are more modest – 9.1% and 8.2%, respectively. Humanitarian universities have the lowest average values (7.7%).
