Mokerov readings at MEPhI
30.05.2017

For the eighth time the International Scientific and Practical Conference on Physics and Technology of Nanoheterostructural Microwave Electronics "Mokerov Readings" has gathered leading world renown scientists specializing in the field of development of materials, technologies and devices for microwave, nano- and functional electronics in MEPhI. The event is dedicated to the memory of the Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, MEPhI Professor Vladimir Mokerov.

Not for nothing is MEPhI  the venue of the conference. A prominent scientist and founder of the direction of heterostructural microwave electronics in Russia, Professor V.G. Mokerov established the department here, under his leadership a whole scientific school was created, which won recognition by its works and achievements.

A major scientific seminar dedicated to the memory of the scientist was held for the first time at MEPhI in 2010, but a couple of years later it turned into a regular conference – an authoritative scientific forum that invariably arouses interest not only among venerable scientists but also postgraduate students and students. Since 2015, the conference has become international. And this time around 200 specialists from scientific research, production organizations and educational institutions came to MEPhI. The geography of authors and participants of the conference covers all of Russia, the countries of near and far abroad: Moscow and the science cities of Zelenograd, Fryazino, Chernogolovka, St. Petersburg, Ekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Veliky Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Tomsk, Krasnodar, Rostov-on- Don, Saransk, Volgograd, Novocherkassk, Lviv and Kiev (Ukraine), Vilnius (Lithuania), Minsk (Belarus), Atlanta (USA), Tohoku (Japan).

The conference was attended by employees of the RAS Institutes, production organizations, universities and leading scientific centers. The topics of the conference have expanded over the years, this year reports were presented by representatives of 27 organizations, the number of reports increased to 80, including 11 reports submitted by foreign participants. The modern state and ways of development of microwave electronics, nano- and optoelectronics based on nanoscale heterostructures and other new functional materials were discussed. Thematic sections of the conference are devoted to both fundamental problems of physics and technology of modern semiconductor materials, and practical problems of creating devices based on them. This year a large number of reports were allocated to a separate, new section – “Terahertz electronics and photonics”.

Before the beginning of the conference MEPhI rector M.N. Strikhanov emphasized the great significance of the conference for assessing the current state and analysis of the prospects for the development of nanotechnology electronics. This is especially important for students and post-graduates of the university who can hear firsthand about new achievements in this field of science.

According to the tradition, before the beginning of the conference, the rector presented diplomas to the scholarship receivers of the Fund named after Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor V.G. Mokerov. For 7 years of work, the Foundation supported 44 young specialists with grants and nominal scholarships, many of them are researchers, technologists and successfully work for the benefit of Russian science and technology.

M.N. Strikhanov presented flowers to the widow of the scientist Yu.A. Mokerova, thanking her for her significant contribution to the development of educational and scientific activities and for helping to organize the event.

A welcoming speech was made by the deputy of the State Duma, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences G.K. Safaraliev. He thanked MEPhI rector for supporting and developing this topical direction at the university, which will make the university famous, and noted the high status of the conference.

Report of the Director of MEPhI Institute of Nanotechnologies in Electronics, Spintronics and Photonics N.I. Kargin was dedicated to the results of innovative developments, new technological opportunities and prospects for the development of the institute in education and science.

Director of the RAS Institute of Microwave Semiconductor Electronics S.A. Gamkrelidze made a scientific report on the results of the development of the ISWHEP of the Russian Academy of Sciences and also reported that a positive decision was made by FAO on the assignment to the Institute the name of V.G. Mokerov.

Further work continued in accordance with the program of the conference. For one day MEPhI became a scientific platform with busy work flow.

A collection of works will be published in journals Journal of Physics: Conference Series, Nano- and Microsystem technics following the results of the conference.
