18.05.2017

The final stage of the All-Russian Student Olympiad in Physics has been held in MEPhI. The strongest and most talented children from leading Russian universities participated in this prestigious educational competition.

One more time the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation has given MEPhI the right to hold the student Olympiad of such a high level on its site. Six Olympiads are held at our university this year and three of them – in the fields of applied informatics and cybersecurity, automation, electronics, nanostructured electronics, technologies of biophysics and nuclear medicine – have already taken place. MEPhI students were among the winners and prize-winners of the All-Russian Student Olympiad in all three directions. And at the end of May our university will meet talented young people who will come to conquer the educational Olympiad in nuclear physics and technologies.

As expected, the final stage of the All-Russian Student Olympiad in Physics gathered representatives of the most famous technical universities of the country, including Lomonosov Moscow State University, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (State University), Bauman Moscow State Technical University, National University of Science and Technology MISiS, Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia BN. Yeltsin, Moscow Aviation Institute, Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod and MEPhI with its branches – all in all, 20 Russian institutions and 181 participant. Today this is the largest student intellectual competition among the All-Russian Olympiads in this field.

As the vice-rector of MEPhI E.B. Vesna noted, constant interest in participating in the Olympiad in the walls of our university testifies its deserved authority based on a high level of tasks, as well as fair refereeing of the expert jury. By the way, this time it was very difficult for the jury to determine the winner: similar results were demonstrated by the participants.

Each university is extremely interested in talented children, offering them various preferences for admission to the Master's program. MEPhI gives an opportunity to the winners and prize-winners of the All-Russian Student Olympiad to enter the Master's program without examinations. By the way, receiving preferences when entering the Master's program of our university is one of the main reasons for many students to take part in it.

For the fourth time, an international tour is being conducted within the framework of the Olympiad. This year students from Turkey, Vietnam, the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Moldova took part in the Olympiad in Physics.  The student of our university Ermak Adil Aydynuly became the winner of the international tour.

In accordance with the decision of the jury, the prize places in the direction of the Olympiad were distributed as follows:

The winner of the Olympiad – Maxim Khabarov, MIPT;
Winner of the second degree – Roman Zakharov, Lomonosov Moscow State University;
3rd place winner – Yegor Dmitriev, MEPhI.

In the team event the winners were lined up in the following order:

1 place – MIPT team;
2nd place – the team of MEPhI;
3 place – the team of Lomonosov Moscow State University.

Students of MEPhI Moscow branch demonstrated high knowledge of the subject. The expert jury noted the team of our university in Sarov, which showed the best results among the branches.

Also this year, the organizing committee of the All-Russian Student Olympiad in Physics decided to mark two more teams: the team of the National Research Lobachevsky University of Nizhny Novgorod, which took the 4th place in the team classification and the MAI team.

After the solemn ceremony, the team leaders and participants shared their impressions, noted the good organization of the event, and the winners and laureates rejoiced at the well-deserved victory:

The winner of the Olympiad - Maxim Khabarov, 4 year, the Department of High Energy Physics, MIPT: "I participate for the third time, but is the winner for the first time. I wish future participants patience, prepare for the Olympics and get as much knowledge as possible. I spent the whole fifth and half of the sixth semester reading books."

Roman Zakharov 3 years, Physics Faculty, Lomonosov Moscow State University: "This is the second time I take part in this Olympiad, last year I took 12th place. The tasks this time seemed to me not so difficult, because I was well prepared."

Egor Dmitriev, 1 year, Institute of Laser and Plasma Technologies, MEPhI: "In high school I took part in various Olympiads, and when I entered MEPhI, I decided to try my hand and succeeded. Some tasks were very difficult, some not very. Next year I'll try again, I would like to take the first place.”
