MULTIFUNCTIONAL STIMULUS-SENSITIVE MICROCAPSULES AND NANOCRYSTALS FOR EARLY DIAGNOSIS AND EFFICACIOUS TREATMENT OF LUNG AND BREAST CANCERS (State Contract no. 16.1034.2017/PCh)

In the course of applied research on Multifunctional Stimulus-Sensitive Microcapsules and Nanocrystals for Early Diagnosis and Efficacious Treatment of Lung and Breast Cancers (State Contract no. 16.1034.2017/PCh, Grant Agreement of May 31, 2017), methods for obtaining plasmonic, magnetic, and excitonic nanomaterials have been developed in the Laboratory of Nano-Bioengineering.

Samples of CdSe/ZnS fluorescent semiconductor quantum dots with a fluorescence quantum yield higher of more than 80% and highly reproducible optical properties, spherical magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles with a high sensitivity to magnetic field, and silver nanoparticles with characteristic peaks of plasmon scattering in extinction spectra have been obtained. All these materials will be used as components of the microcapsules, ensuring their fluorescence characteristics and sensitivity to external stimuli.

MULTIFUNCTIONAL STIMULUS-SENSITIVE MICROCAPSULES AND NANOCRYSTALS FOR EARLY DIAGNOSIS AND EFFICACIOUS TREATMENT OF LUNG AND BREAST CANCERS (State Contract no. 16.1034.2017/PCh)

In the course of applied research on Multifunctional Stimulus-Sensitive Microcapsules and Nanocrystals for Early Diagnosis and Efficacious Treatment of Lung and Breast Cancers (State Contract no. 16.1034.2017/PCh, Grant Agreement of May 31, 2017), methods for synthesis of the low-toxic CuInS2/ZnS and CuInS2-xSex/ZnS fluorescent nanocrystals (quantum dots, QDs) intensely fluorescing in the visible and near IR regions have been developed.

The use of fluorescence in the wavelength region of 700–900 nm, also referred to as the transparency window of biological tissues and fluids, makes it possible to detect fluorescent signals from deep areas of the sample. Therefore, incorporation of CuInS2/ZnS QDs into the walls of stimulus-sensitive microcapsules will allow their specific detection and the imaging of their targeted transport in vivo. The scheme of manufacturing of the nanotechnological system and the methodical guidelines for its future use in medical diagnosis and targeted drug delivery have been prepared. In addition to the basic scheme, variants of further extension of applications of the nanotechnological system designed have been proposed.

MULTIFUNCTIONAL STIMULUS-SENSITIVE MICROCAPSULES AND NANOCRYSTALS FOR EARLY DIAGNOSIS AND EFFICACIOUS TREATMENT OF LUNG AND BREAST CANCERS (State Contract no. 16.1034.2017/PCh)

In the course of applied research on Multifunctional Stimulus-Sensitive Microcapsules and Nanocrystals for Early Diagnosis and Efficacious Treatment of Lung and Breast Cancers (State Contract no. 16.1034.2017/PCh, Grant Agreement of May 31, 2017), a technology for obtaining polymer microcapsules containing magnetic nanoparticles has been developed and the optimal amount of the magnetic component ensuring the response of the microcapsules to magnetic field has been determined.

Preliminary characterization and estimation of the functional activity of the product, namely, the capacity of the microcapsules for moving upon application of a magnetic field, have been performed.

MULTIFUNCTIONAL STIMULUS-SENSITIVE MICROCAPSULES AND NANOCRYSTALS FOR EARLY DIAGNOSIS AND EFFICACIOUS TREATMENT OF LUNG AND BREAST CANCERS (State Contract no. 16.1034.2017/PCh)

In the course of applied research on Multifunctional Stimulus-Sensitive Microcapsules and Nanocrystals for Early Diagnosis and Efficacious Treatment of Lung and Breast Cancers (State Contract no. 16.1034.2017/PCh, Grant Agreement of May 31, 2017), a technology for fabrication of stimulus-sensitive polymer microcapsules containing excitonic nanoparticles has been developed and the possibility of obtaining a combined system based on the stimulus-sensitive polyelectrolyte microcapsules containing both magnetic and excitonic nanoparticles has been demonstrated.

Studies have been carried out on preliminary characterization of the microcapsules, including the estimation of the dispersive properties of the system designed and testing of the functional capacity of the system. The fabricated stimulus-sensitive polymer microcapsules containing excitonic or both excitonic and magnetic nanoparticles are 3.0–6.0 μm in size; therefore, they can be used as theranostic agents intended for parenteral administration.

MULTIFUNCTIONAL STIMULUS-SENSITIVE MICROCAPSULES AND NANOCRYSTALS FOR EARLY DIAGNOSIS AND EFFICACIOUS TREATMENT OF LUNG AND BREAST CANCERS (State Contract no. 16.1034.2017/PCh)

The results of research carried out in the course of applied research on Multifunctional Stimulus-Sensitive Microcapsules and Nanocrystals for Early Diagnosis and Efficacious Treatment of Lung and Breast Cancers (State Contract no. 16.1034.2017/PCh, Grant Agreement of May 31, 2017) have been reported at the 2nd International Symposium on Physics, Engineering and Technologies for Biomedicine on October 10–14, 2017 in Moscow, Russia, in the form of poster presentations.

The Laboratory of Nano-Bioengineering has presented reports on (1) Еfficient Encoding of Matrix Microparticles with Nanocrystals for Fluorescent Polyelectrolyte Microcapsules Development by Galina Nifontova, Alyona Sukhanova, Pavel Samokhvalov, and Igor Nabiev and (2) Cytotoxicity of Polyelectrolyte Microcapsules Encoded with Semiconductor Nanocrystals by Galina Nifontova, Maria Baryshnikova, Svetlana Bozrova, Zinaida Sokolova, Igor Nabiev, and Alyona Sukhanova.

MULTIFUNCTIONAL STIMULUS-SENSITIVE MICROCAPSULES AND NANOCRYSTALS FOR EARLY DIAGNOSIS AND EFFICACIOUS TREATMENT OF LUNG AND BREAST CANCERS (State Contract no. 16.1034.2017/PCh)

In the framework of applied research on Multifunctional Stimulus-Sensitive Microcapsules and Nanocrystals for Early Diagnosis and Efficacious Treatment of Lung and Breast Cancers (State Contract no. 16.1034.2017/PCh, Grant Agreement of May 31, 2017), researchers of the Laboratory of Nano-Bioengineering have analyzed available publications to compile a patent and research data base on the synthesis of microcapsules, methods for increasing their stability, and stimulus-sensitive targeted delivery.

The results have been reported at an internal workshop of the Nanomedicine Group of the laboratory. The possibilities of further extension of the use of the targeted delivery system based on stimulus-sensitive polymer microcapsules containing excitonic and/or plasmonic nanoparticles have been discussed.

Dear colleagues,

A research colloquium of the Laboratory of Nano-Bioengineering (LNBE) of NRNU MEPhI will be held in the conference hall of Building K at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, December 14. The colloquium agenda includes statements by Professor Igor R. Nabiev, PhD, DSci, leading scientist of LNBE, principal investigator of the project; Pavel S.
