On June 26, 2019, ShanghaiRanking Consultancy announced the results of the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2019 .  The National Research Nuclear University MEPhI significantly strengthened its position in the subject rankings of "Physics" and "Instruments Science & Technology".  For the first time, MEPhI entered the TOP 150 in the field of “Physics” (in 2018 – 151-200 place), which put it in second place among all Russian universities.  In the category of "Instruments Science & Technology," MEPhI placed in the TOP 200 (in 2018 – 201-300), taking second place among Russian universities. In addition, according to the subject rating "Energy Science & Engineering," MEPhI placed second among all Russian universities, entering the TOP 500 of the best universities in the world.

Subject rankings rated more than 4 thousand universities in 54 subjects. It is noted that only 15 of Russian universities were included in the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, 11 of which are participants of the Academic Excellence Project 5-100.

The rating uses five indicators: productivity of scientific activity, citation index, international cooperation, the number of publications in the most prestigious scientific journals in their field and the number of employees awarded prestigious awards in a particular field.
